Ayushman Card, also known as Ayushman Bharat Card; is one of the important documents, which helps the beneficiaries to receive the medical benefits and financial support from the government against health care expenses. If you have already registered for Ayushman Card than you can simply download it. The complete process to download Ayushman Card is explained below.
The Ayushman Bharat Card is granted to eligible beneficiaries by the government, who can avail the benefits in different affiliated/empanelled public and private hospitals. The benefits will be granted or approved to only those individuals who possess the Ayushman Card.
Ayushman Card Download Online Instructions
Follow the Step-wise instructions to download Ayushman Card, as explained below:
Step #1: Visit the Official website of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), from the following link to Download Ayushman card: https://www.pmjay.gov.in/
Step #2: On the Top Menu, look for “Am I Eligible” option and click on it.
Step #3: Here, you have to enter your Mobile number that you have linked with your Ayushman Bharat Account and select authentication with OTP. If you have a registered Ayushman Bharat Account and if your name is present on the beneficiary list than you will receive the OTP. Enter the OTP just received on your mobile and confirm your identity.
Step #4: You will be redirected to a new page where you will get some dropdown options where you have to select correct options for State (Select your State), Scheme (Select PMJAY), District (Select your district/zilla), Search by (Select any 1 from the list), as shown in the pic below:
Step #5: In the Next step, you will see a complete list of your details. Along with your Name you will also be able to see the status of your Ayushman Card. There will be 1 out of 3 options that you may see in front of your name.
- Approved: If your status is approved than you are good to go, and can easily download Ayushman card.
- Pending: If the status shown is Pending, than you have to wait for approval process to complete.
- Not Generated: If the status shown is Not Generated, than it means you have to register or apply for Ayushman Card.
If your Ayushman Card status is approved than you can download your Ayushman Card easily. As shown in the pic below in the last ‘Action’ column. You will see a download Icon. Click on the download icon, it will ask for OTP verification. Complete the verification and the Ayushman Card pdf file will downloaded instantly.
Click on Download Ayushman Card option displayed on the screen. Your Ayushman Card pdf file will be downloaded on your PC/Laptop or mobile. Please note, every time you have to authenticate your Identity if you need to download the Ayushman Card again. So, its better to save the pdf file on your Computer/Laptop and take printout of the card for further use.
What are the limitations of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme
The following are the limitations which comes along with Ayushman Bharat Scheme:
1. The maximum coverage amount is of Rs. 5 lakhs per year per family. This only includes 3 days of Pre-hospitalization charges and upto 15 days of Post-hospitalization charges
2. Many treatments are excluded from the list, such as, fertility treatment, dental procedures, HIV/AIDS treatment, cosmetic surgeries, drug rehabilitation, etc.
3. No free health checkups, No coverage for Home treatment, NO coverage for OPD care, etc.
4. No coverage for some of the critical illnesses like, lung cancer, stroke/paralysis etc.
5. No Tax benefits

Is Ayushman card valid for Lifetime?
No. The card needs renewal. It is required to be renewed every year on 31st May to continue availing of its benefits.
Is Ayushman Card valid for Pregnancy?
Yes. The Ayushman card is considered valid for pregnancy related treatments. For major hospitalizations and medical procedures and treatments, including pregnancy and child birth, the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana provides financial coverage.
How do I activate my Ayushman card?
The CAPF Ayushman Card issued or provided are initially inactive. These cards are required to be activated in an empanelled hospital after an e-KYC authentication.
List of Treatments and Diseases Excluded under Ayushman Bharat List
The following list of treatments are diseases are excluded from the Ayushman Bharat List:
– Outpatient department (OPD) consultations
– Fertility-related treatments such as in-vitro fertilisation (IVF)
– Cosmetic surgeries and procedures
– Dental treatments/Dental fixtures and implants
– HIV/AIDS treatment
– Drug/Alcohol rehabilitation
– Any medical treatment undergone outside India, etc.
Who is eligible for the Ayushman Bharat Scheme?
It is mainly for economically weaker sections of the society. It includes health insurance coverage and financial support and cashless treatment facilities against healthcare expenses, to low income and deprived individuals from economically lower class societies.
Can I get Medicines with Ayushman card?
No. The Ayushman card is only for providing free medical treatments to eligible individuals who are enrolled with the Ayushman Bharat scheme. It does not cover buying or getting free medicines directly by the patients.
Can we use Ayushman card in Private hospitals?
Not all hospitals will provide free cashless treatments and facilities of Ayushman Bharat scheme to Ayushman Card holders. Only the empanelled network of public and private hospitals in India will provide.
